Updates, Riverfront Reading

I'm on a different computer now, and Thingamablog turns out not to be very good at transporting blogs. This is a manually created post, and it won't be included in the categories, archives, etc. I'm figuring out a new system, but that will be a while.

Meanwhile, I want to announce...

A New Riverfront Reading

The next Riverfront Reading will be September 8th, 2006 at 8:00 at The Writers Place. It will feature Denise Low and Michael L. Johnson.

Denise Low
Winner of many fellowships and awards, Denise Low, PhD, chairs the English department at Haskell Indian Nations University. She was visiting professor at the University of Richmond, spring 2005. Her most recent book is a collection of essays and interview excerpts about the writing life, Words of a Prairie Alchemist (Ice Cube Press). Her book of poetry Thailand Journal (Woodley Press) was a Kansas City Star notable book, and she has published New & Selected Poems: 1979-1999 (Penthe). She and her husband, Thomas Pecore Weso, wrote Langston Hughes: Photographs and Biographical Resources (available from www.mammothpublicatons.com).

Michael L. Johnson
Michael L. Johnson is a professor of English and the director of Freshman-Sophomore English at the University of Kansas. His most recent book of poetry is From Hell to Jackson Hole: A Poetic History of the American West (Bridge House Books, 2001), which has received, among other honors, a Ben Franklin Award. A new book, a scholarly but playful cultural history titled Hunger for the Wild: America's Obsession with the Untamed West, will be published by the University Press of Kansas in February 2007. At the Writer's Place he will be reading poems from an in-progress collection titled "Sky Land: A Southwestern Cycle."

Slouching Towards Publication - 1 Update

Getting this issue out is starting to feel like waiting for Godot, but it's getting near. We're proofing the final layout now, and it should soon be headed for the printer. Just so you know.

The issue has finally gone to the printer.
